2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect certain types of information about our visitors and subscribers as explained below.

We do this to protect against spam, to check how the site is performing, to manage our subscriber database, and to send e-mails to our subscribers.

2.1 Anti-spam: Akismet

We use the Akismet anti-spam service to prevent spam comments from being posted on the site, which waste everyone’s time.

Akismet is an anti-spam service from Automattic Inc. This service uses various types of data to confirm that each comment comes from a legitimate source.

Automattic’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/

When you leave a comment on this site, we collect any data in the comments form as well as your IP address. An anonymized string is created from your e-mail address and provided to the Akismet service.

After approval of your comment, your profile picture may be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to save your name, e-mail address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again if you leave another comment. These cookies expire in one year.

2.2 Analytics: Google Analytics and WordPress Stats

We use Google Analytics and WordPress Stats to track how visitors use our website, and to check whether you have seen certain pages on the site.

Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google collects cookies and usage data to track the use of this website, to prepare reports on visitor activities, and to share those reports with other Google services. Google may use the data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads on its own advertising network.

Google’s privacy policy is available here:  https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en

WordPress Stats is an analytics service provided by Automattic Inc. This service collects cookies and usage data to track the use of this website.

Automattic’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/

2.3 Managing contacts and sending e-mails: Mailchimp

We use the Mailchimp service to manage our list of subscribers, send e-mails, and check how our e-mails are performing.

Mailchimp is an e-mail address management and message sending service provided by The Rocket Science Group, LLC.

MailChimp’s privacy policy is available here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/

In our database of subscribers, we maintain your first name, last name, role in your company (i.e. marketing manager or white paper writer), and e-mail address. We also keep cookies to track whether you opened an e-mail we sent.

2.4 Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content such as articles, images, videos, and so on. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly the same as if you visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

These websites may also track your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

3. What rights you have over your data

You have the right to view, update, and delete any personal information we have on file about you.

You can view your personal information at any time. To do so, click the Update Profile link in an e-mail we sent you.

4. Where your data is processed

Our website and those of our service providers are hosted in the United States of America.

If you live outside the United States, any information we obtain from you will be processed outside your country.

If you live in the European Union, any information we obtain from you will be processed outside the European Union.

5. How we protect your data

We have adopted three significant measures to help protect your personal information:

  • Every page on this website is encrypted with HTTPS. This protects you from intruders who could try to listen in and tamper with your communications with this site.
  • New subscribers sign up with a two-factor authentication process. This confirms your identity and makes sure that you really want to subscribe.
  • All our staff use two-factor authentication to sign into WordPress. This confirms the identity of our team members who log into our website with enough credentials to gain unauthorized access to your personal information.

Beyond that, every service provider we work with is an established vendor with a proven track record. All our service providers are keenly aware of the need to protect the personal information of their clients. To the best of our knowledge, none of our service providers has ever experienced a major data breach.

6. Will we share your data with others?

We will never sell, rent, loan, or give your personal information to any other party without your consent.
